Montana Governor Greg Gianforte cited the rape case as a reason to put a halt to the refugee resettlement program.
Gianforte said he has no issue welcoming “fully-vetted Afghan allies to Montana,” but that “this situation and others across the country raise serious concerns about whether the Biden administration is meeting its obligations to fully vet Afghans prior to resettlement.”
“I’m calling on President Biden to immediately halt resettlements to Montana until federal agencies provide me with adequate assurance that Afghans coming to Montana are fully-vetted in accordance with federal law,” he demanded.
As Afghanistan was falling to the Taliban, President Biden insisted that amidst the chaos all Afghan refugees would be thoroughly vetted.
“At these sites where they are landing, we are conducting thorough … security screening for everyone who is not a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident,” Biden said.
“Anyone arriving in the United States will have undergone a background check.”
President Biden insisted we “welcome these Afghans who helped us in the war effort over the last 20 years to their new home in the United States of America” only “once screened and cleared.”
“That is who we are, that is what America is,” he said.
How much did a 19-year-old Afghan evacuee, now charged with rape in Montana, contribute to the 20-year war effort, one has to wonder? Did they find that out during their vetting process?
Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) has claimed there is “really no vetting” of Afghan refugees by the administration.
“Joe Biden screwed it up,” Cotton said, following reports that some individuals from Afghanistan with “no particular ties to the United States” had been evacuated.
“There’s really no vetting. It’s hard to do in Afghanistan,” Cotton said.
“The Biden administration is taking their name, if it is their name, and testing it against databases, and if they don’t come back, it’s like, ‘Well, they must be fine to go,” he added. “Again, we have no idea who these people are.”
Cotton was speaking about a young female soldier allegedly being assaulted at Fort Bliss in El Paso, as well as alleged sex offenses by Afghan men at Fort McCoy in Wisconsin.
The Fort McCoy incident involves Bahrullah Noori, who is accused of sexually assaulting one juvenile who was 12 to 15 years of age.
Noori was, according to the Washington Times, part of the massive evacuation effort by the Biden administration following the collapse of the Afghan government.
